THE JULIE ALEXANDER
In action
Leadership in real rooms. Real conversations. Real outcomes.
From national industry summits to policy-influencing symposiums and leadership forums, I work in rooms where ideas shape action and conversations move sectors forward.
WOMEN IN MINING LEADERSHIP (WIMNET)
KEYNOTE & LEADERSHIP IMMERSION
Embedding Psychological Safety, Ethical Power and Strategic Influence in Mining
In partnership with WIMNet NSW, industry sponsors, university leadership and local government stakeholders, this sector-wide leadership program brought together emerging and established industry leaders and mining engineering students.
Through immersive sessions, we explored pressure, accountability and the behavioural impact of power – giving language to lived leadership challenges and practical tools to navigate them.
Published reflections demonstrated adoption of behavioural leadership frameworks, increased confidence to speak up, and a clear understanding that culture change requires leadership behaviour, not just diversity metrics.
Developing Leadership Identity Before Authority
A Mining Engineering Cohort Case Study
Embedding psychological safety, ethical power and cultural responsibility in emerging industry leaders.
The mining industry faces increasing scrutiny around safety, inclusion, psychosocial risk and leadership behaviour. While most interventions target existing managers, leadership identity often forms much earlier.
We were engaged to facilitate a leadership development day for mining engineering students in partnership with WIMNet NSW and the University of Wollongong.
The Challenge
Technical cohorts are traditionally trained for operational excellence.
However, high-risk industries require leaders who understand:
- Psychological safety
- Ethical power dynamics
- Strategic influence
- The relationship between silence and systemic risk
- Inclusion as a performance driver, not a compliance exercise
Without this framing early, organisations often attempt to retrofit these skills once culture drift has already occurred.
The Intervention
Three core sessions:
- Psychological Safety, Bravery and the Trust Thermocline
- The Psychology of Leading Authentically (Power and Influence)
- Strategic Influence and Navigating Organisational Politics
The focus:
Leadership as behaviour, not title.
Outcomes Observed
Post-event published reflections demonstrated:
- Adoption of behavioural leadership language
- Increased confidence in speaking up
- Recognition that diversity metrics alone do not create inclusion
- Clear linkage between safety, performance and everyday leadership behaviour
- Reframing of inclusion as strategic capability
One student wrote:
“Silence protects the system. It doesn’t protect you.”
Another reflected:
“Leadership is just as much about listening and supporting as it is about decision-making.”
Strategic Insight
Embedding leadership responsibility early in career formation reduces future culture risk. Proactive leadership identity work is a preventive governance strategy, not a soft-skills exercise.
If your organisation is serious about developing leaders who can manage complexity, safety and inclusion under pressure, the work cannot start at promotion.
It must begin before authority consolidates and patterns become fixed.

THE BREAKTHROUGH SUMMIT
CHAIR & SPEAKER
Bringing together high-profile speakers across sport, entertainment and business, the Breakthrough Summit focused on one central question: how do we take personal leadership to the next level?
As Chair and Speaker, I connected diverse perspectives into a coherent leadership narrative – elevating the conversation beyond inspiration to practical accountability.
THE HOME STRETCH SYMPOSIUM
FACILITATOR/MC
An advocacy-driven national symposium bringing together policymakers, sector leaders and lived-experience voices to support raising the age young people leave state care from 18 to 21.
As Facilitator and MC, I held space for complex, emotionally charged conversations – ensuring policy, experience and action aligned around a shared outcome.
women in leadership
SPEAKER/MC
National leadership forums designed to equip emerging and established leaders with practical strategies for navigating influence, performance pressure and career progression.
My sessions focused on behavioural accountability, resilience under pressure and leadership impact – combining research, lived experience and actionable insight.
NOT EVERY ROOM LOOKS LIKE THIS
Much of my work happens behind closed doors – executive offsites, board sessions and leadership immersions where confidentiality matters more than cameras.
Different setting. Same standard.
Let's talk
Whether you’re planning a leadership event, aligning a senior team or navigating complex cultural dynamics, the right conversation changes outcomes.
If you’re clear on your brief - great.
If you’re still shaping it - that’s fine too.
Tell me about:
- The audience
- The context
- The outcomes you want to create
- Timing and budget range
I respond personally to all serious enquiries.
Leadership shifts don’t happen by accident.
Let’s make yours count.
